Build a wedding-guest uniform

The wedding circuit is a stress test for any wardrobe. Different dress codes, different cities, different weather, and the photographer sees everything.

Outfit one — the long, easy column

A floor-length dress in a single, considered colour (deep raspberry, olive, dusty plum). Bias-cut so it moves; lined so you don't think about it. Pair with a low heel and a structured bag.

Outfit two — separates, dressed up

A silk blouse, a long pleated skirt, a pair of metallic flats. Add a slim belt and a column of small jewellery. This is the outfit that handles a midday ceremony, a 4pm canapé hour, and a wedding speech that runs long.

Outfit three — the suit, but soft

A light wool or linen suit in a mid-tone. Wear it open over a slip; closed with a delicate t-shirt; or jacket with the matching skirt. Three outfits in a single garment bag.

If you photograph the same dress at three weddings, only the people who weren't invited will notice.

Buy the column. Add the separates. The suit can wait until you've worn the column twice.
